General Discussion / gonna be away for a little while
« on: December 05, 2012, 08:54:52 pm »
Hi all, I'm going to be a bit away for the next 2 weeks, as my finals are coming up and I need to buckle down and kick some tests in the butt. So if you're wondering where I am at present, I am either: studying, doing homework, or any combination of the two.

I'll be back around Dec 19th, as that is the end of my fall semester.

This is off wikipedia

Machinima ( /məˈʃiːnɨmə/ or /məˈʃɪnɨmə/) is the use of real-time 3D computer graphics rendering engines to create a cinematic production. Most often, video games are used to generate the computer animation. Machinima-based artists, sometimes called machinimists or machinimators, are often fan laborers, by virtue of their re-use of copyrighted materials.

In simple terms, its making movies using a game engine. So in MC, I'd think F1 and fly to be a cameraman, and use vent/whatever to be a voice acting application. We could voice act live during play, or voice act after the clip is recorded.

Server Suggestions / Let's buckle up and hit rush hour traffic(not really)!

Where to start, where to start...

This post will be all my server suggestions(which may be quite a few) so lets roll:

-we need regularly scheduled events of epic proportion. The power week was really good, it got people on, now we need to keep them there. One of the most proven ways of this is events! Get people amped! Maybe a big dungeon clearout, or a speed build with various prizes for both first-third finishers, and overall looks/function! If we want the 10-20 people online simultaneously, we need to give them a reason to get on!

-We need the main supervisors to be online a bit more. I'm not saying get on whenever possible, I'm saying get on maybe 4-5 times a week, just to keep the machine oiled, if you get me.

-one of the big ones: ADVERTs! We can't get more people if no one knows who we are and what we stand for, etc! I would like to suggest that we make sig banners(for other forums, etc), more videos, like maybe mod/admin intros, impressive builds, timelapses/speed builds, maybe even a whole series? Might be worth while looking into machinima(which is making, in essence, movies out of game footage)and other generic over the top things to get some attention!

Feel free to suggest, criticize, completely destroy, etc.! Let me know!

News and Updates / Re: From fear of inactivity
« on: September 11, 2012, 03:28:49 pm »
Well, I play on a Roman RP server called Romecraft. It uses MCMMO and there are many factions in it. I believe that it also has essentials, but I might be wrong.

I think that If we need to make a server popular, we need to advertise it. We should probably make more YouTube vids and get some ad stuff going on.

We could have factions for different towns, maybe? Or perhaps different factions like "government" for mayors/mayor employees, etc.

Suggestions? I think we need to keep the no-griefing policy, otherwise things get out of hand.

Since so many people aren't logging, I thought that I should log on far more. As a moderator it is no longer an "if I want to" type thing(not completely) it is a "I need to" type thing. I'm going to try hard to be on more. Kinda turning away from Tekkit as it causes LOADS of system lag for me :/

I'll try to be on the vanilla or main and keep at least one person coming on consistently ;)

Also, I am going to be making a museum on the main server of how to use....
Redstone! I have wanted to do this for a while and I think it would allow other people to really know just how much one can do with it.

Thanks all!

i myself voted for hooper's spleef arena(no offense to other competitors) and thought that he'd outdone(by varying margins) the other contestants.

Hooper's is portable(not gigantic), geared for the public, and it doesn't have too much happening in it(appearance-wise).

I think Hooper won, honestly. I kinda thought that was clear. I'll discuss it with wolf.

Jonny's was good, but I felt it was too large scale and a bit over the top

Mine was too private, like a personal house for someone, not something for the public.(kept the museum, which I plan on making anyway)

Travis's was pretty good, but lacked internal embellishment(I know you would've done more, but you ran out of time, so I have to role with what you did)

Dark's and Winter's was also very good and i believe they're the 2nd placement, but it was narrowly taken by hooper b/c theirs was very large(immense, even), and the farm (appeared to be)meant for private use.

Hooper's is portable(not gigantic), geared for the public, and it doesn't have too much happening in it(appearance-wise).

Server Suggestions / Re: HUNGER GAMES - Plugin in Alpha
« on: July 08, 2012, 10:43:57 am »
i think we ought to wait out its alpha status at least, possibly beta stages if its bugged out. Rushing things can ruin things.

Once the people working it are "in the zone"(working full speed ahead) we might be able to see just how much time they put into bug fixes and quality control.

Main Server Discussion / Re: The disaPering wolfs

my dogs used to disappear on the vanilla.

I'd say someone or a mob or something is killing pplz dogs.

What I do that's kept my dogs alive pretty long(a few months) is i made a dog door(fence gate) on the side of my house that feeds into an underground room made for the dogs.(i have mine i think 10-20 blocks down)
attached to this room I have 2 perpendicular(L-shape) corridors, both with traps(b/c of thunderpiggy's dogicide) in them.

to keep the dogs from getting into the hallway, i have more fence gates.

haven't had problems since and my dogs sit in their pen even now, about 5-7 of them.

Hope this helps!

PS: to REALLY hide your dogs, put them deep enough so that people don't hear barking.

I'm going to suggest that all judges use the default texture pack because it is the only truly universal set of textures.
